The way a builder answers these tells you almost as much as the answers themselves. Straight, specific responses are a good sign. Vague reassurance is not.

Be cautious of the cheapest quote that leaves big-ticket items off the page — site costs, driveways, landscaping — only for them to reappear as expensive variations later. The lowest starting price is rarely the lowest finished price.
